National Institute of Technology, Srinagar was established in 1960 as one of the several Regional Engineering Colleges(RECs) established as a part of the Second Five-year plan(1956-61) by the government of India. It is governed by the National Institute of Technology Act, 2007 which has declared it as the Institute of National Importance.

Placement session 2019-20 at National Institute of Technology, Srinagar concluded with satisfying results inspite of institute shutdown from August 2019 to mid-October 2019 due to scraping of Article 370. Revoking Article 370 affected the academic calendar of the Institute as students were sent to their homes. Institute then started arranging placements at ALTTC Ghaziabad (Delhi NCR), Mr.Amit Kumar(Placement co-ordinator) headed the whole placements and taken the right decisions at the right time in spite of Institute authorities suggestions.

Many good companies like Lowes, Optum, Samsung, etc visited and recruited a good number of students in the first half of the placement session 2019-20. As per the first half near to 100 students got placed with the highest annual package topping Rs 19+ lakhs while the average salary package is between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. Before year(2018-19) highest package was 28LPA. Followed by this, Institute has declared winter vacation was declared from December to Mid-February 2020 and just after the completion of semester exams, the Institute was again shut down due to this COVID-19 pandemic. But during this pandemic, few companies selected the students through online interviews. Many students even got 2-3 offers.

Many other students scored good in GATE 2020 and will be joining good PSUs and IITs for their Master’s program and some other students got direct admissions to Ph.D from some old IITs.

The Placement session results were more than satisfactory, Despite the difficulties like shutdown of Institute for both Article 370, COVID-19 many students got placed, and students have proven that “No barrier can stop talented”.

• Ever noticed a hole in the washbasin? have you ever wondered about the purpose of that hole?

If the water tap is left on for a while and the drain stopper is closed, the opening will channel water down into the drain opening rather than letting it spill out of the sink onto the floor and the second reason is that the overflow allows the sink to drain faster by introducing air into the system.

It is said because if we do so then the nails might dispersed in the room and we might get hurt by those nails in the absence of light.

• Myth: Kamasutra is all about sex.

The fact is that only 20 percentage of Kamasutra talks about sex. Rest 80% talks about emotional fulfillment, love, and life.

To avoid causing harm to eyes or loss of eyesight. It is said mainly to pregnant women because to be safe from UV -rays.

• Plastering floor With Cow Dung.

It is commonly followed by traditional families because Cow dung water sprinkling and Plastering floor with Cow Dung acts as a disinfectant.

•  Do not Sleep with your head Facing the north

We were asked not to sleep facing our head to north because to prevent cardiovascular diseases arising from the asymetry with earth’s magnetic field.

Swallowing tulsi leaves prevents degradation of enamel from the arsenic in tulsi.

If we look perfectly, the Rs.2000 note has 9 and 11 bubbles on the front and 16 bubbles on the backside as shown in the above picture. These numbers indicate the day on which the 2000 note was launched. i.e 9/11/2016

it is for the sign of blind people so that they can check the note whether it is real or fake and based on the number of lines one can detect whether it is 200 or 500 or 2000. There are 6-7 lines on each end of the 200 note which can be detected by touch.

On a Rs.500 note there are 5–5 lines formed on both ends.

There are two cases here based on where you sleep.

• A closed environment (air-conditioned room)
• Open place (easy airflow)

For suppose if someone sleeps in a closed environment like an air-conditioned room and when the fire rapidly grows then oxygen available in the room will be exhausted fastly and produce large amounts of Carbon Monoxide (CO).

Unlike Carbon Dioxide, Monoxide doesn’t produce the feeling of suffocation that one feels when ‘running out of air.’ As Carbon Monoxide builds up, it displaces oxygen in the bloodstream, and the person loses consciousness while in sleep.

The symptoms of CO poisoning tend to be mild at first – headache, dizziness, weakness. These are all things that are irrelevant if you’re already asleep. It progresses to confusion, blurred vision, and unconsciousness. In other words, a person who is asleep won’t show or feel any symptoms at all – CO poisoning and going to sleep are basically the same thing. Death from CO, for a person who is asleep, would be literally painless. They would never know that anything at all had happened.

For suppose if a person is sleeping in an open environment then he/she can possibly get to know about fire in the surroundings and one can possibly save themself from fire.

AIR CONDITIONER FIRES & HOW TO PREVENT THEM:

• Do not plug your AC to a power extension cord. A 1-ton AC may consume between 900 to 1200 W of power (some units may consume even more power) which is much higher than a mobile phone (2 to 6W) or a laptop (20-50 W). Plugging it to a power extension cord will increase the risk of the cord and subsequently, the machine, catching fire, so reserve a switch for the appliance instead.
• This electrical socket must be easily accessible so you can switch it off in an emergency situation. The wires should be placed in such a manner that they do not become a trip hazard.
• Ensure that no water source, like a tap, is near the unit. Place the unit in such a way that even accidentally, water doesn’t spill over the unit. Also, avoid placing decorative items, like flowers upon the unit.
• Keep the unit and wires away from hot surfaces that may damage the wire insulation.
• Get the AC and electric socket checked regularly. Since they are high voltage units, this precautionary measure is a must.
• It is advised to let only professionals install an AC at your home so they can check for water seepage, the correct socket for installation, etc.
• If any parts (external or internal) are damaged or broken, have them repaired immediately. Tell-tale signs like weird noises, nasty smell or reduced cooling, etc. should not be ignored.

Do you know about Hide and Seek game, which we play in our childhood times!

Recently AI researchers from OpenAI developed Artificial Intelligence agents (bots) and trained them by letting play hide and seek with each other. The bots are categorized into two, namely Hiders (blue), Seekers (red).

Here are the Rules of the game that are predefined in their coding:

• Seeker(s) would count for some time (remains idle), in the meantime hider(s) would hide.
• Once the counter ends, the seeker would start searching for the hider.
• Upon finding the hider, the seeker has to chase down the hider who would be trying to flee upon being seen.
• The game provides several blocks (rectangular boxes) and ramps (triangular boxes), both the hiders and seekers can move them from one place to another inside a confined arena. But once a hider/seeker has locked the box/ramp at a certain position, it can’t be moved further.
• Here this follows Reinforcement learning, once seekers find hiders then seekers will be given credits and if seekers can’t find then hiders will be given credits.

Stage-1: At the initial learning phase, the seekers learned to chase the hider if it has seen any and the hider learned to run away on being seen.

Stage-2: However after playing millions of rounds, the hiders found a solution: They started creating shelters using the blocks (see below picture), this avoids the seekers to see or catch the hider.

Stage-3: After several failed attempts to break-in to the shelter created by hiders, the seekers eventually learn to use the ramps. They push the ramp beside the shelter and climb up in order to move inside the shelter (see below picture)

After having their shelter breached millions of times, the hiders also learned something new: they took away all the ramps with them into the shelter, they call this as ramp defense (see below)

Stage-4: The researchers believed that this would be the final strategy that the agents learned but then something weird happened. After several more rounds, the seekers discover that they can jump on the top of the boxes and surf them to the hider’s shelter, they call this as box surfing (see below picture)

Now the hiders need to learn something new and playing millions of more rounds they do so. In order to prevent the seekers to box surf, the hiders learned to lock as many boxes as they can before constructing their shelter (see below picture)

Phase-5 (Here comes the disturbing part): When it seems that there are no further moves left, the agents learned to exploit the environment in other unique ways:

• Some hider took a box and literally ran out of the arena!
• Some of them push the ramp out of play as the game starts.
• Few seekers learned that if they ran at the wall at just the right angle, they could launch themselves in the air over the walls to find the hiders.

The thing here is that none of the behavior shown by the agents was directly taught. They learned these behaviors themselves by playing the game for millions of times until they get rewarded, and they get the reward only when they win the game.

This study tells us a lot, it shows that AI learning by competition will be a much more feasible alternative than training under supervision. But on the flip side, it also tells that AI can learn to use sophisticated techniques when its only goal is to beat its opponent, it will behave in ways that we don’t expect, which gives us a glimpse of what AI can be!

It is believed that the culture of Hinduism and many modern technologies which we are using now-a-days were already said in great epics like Ramayana, Mahabaratha but this zero didn’t exist in single in those days, which means that there were separate individual symbols for 10, 100, 1000, etc., and it is a different number system that exists before all civilizations on earth.  In those days Brahmi lipi was widely used, even Brahmi lipi was used to write Sanskrit slokas in ancient  India.

Here are those numbers, you can observe a separate symbolic representation for 10, 20, 30, 40,… 100, 1000 etc.

Now, if you want to write 111 in Brahmi number then you have to write the symbol of hundred in hundred’s digit and ten in ten’s digit and the symbol of one in the unit digit.

Aryabhatta invented zero, he is the first of the great astronomers of the classical age of India. He was born in 476 AD in Ashmaka but later lived in Kusumapura, which his commentator Bhaskara I (629 AD) identifies with Patilputra (modern Patna). he gave the world the digit “0” (zero) for which he became immortal. Aryabhatt thought that some numbers like zero exists and one can represent Ten as Symbol of one as of ten digits and Symbol of zero as the unit digit. This was firstly added in ‘Bakhshali Manuscript‘ and then it was added in other Lipis. But it is believed that Zero and its operation are first defined by [Hindu astronomer and mathematician] Brahmagupta in 628, said Gobets. He developed a symbol for zero: a dot underneath numbers

After centuries Sridharacharya invented the operations of zero in India in the 8th century. He clearly mentioned the properties of Zero.

“If zero is added to any number, the sum is the same number; if zero is subtracted from any number, the number remains unchanged; if zero is multiplied by any number, the product is zero”.

Fish raining is not a supernatural one, we may observe this sometime and Scientists believe the wind phenomena like whirlwinds or tornadoes are responsible. When such wind patterns appear over water bodies, they create waterspouts. Tornadic waterspouts sometimes pick up creatures such as fish or frogs and carry them for up to several miles. The strong winds in these storms can sometimes carry displaced fish, frogs, or even snakes for miles inland before dropping them on unsuspecting towns. A waterspout works just like a tornado but forms over water.

Raining animals is a rare meteorological phenomenon in which flightless animals “rain” from the sky. Such occurrences have been reported in many countries throughout history.

Just like whirlwinds and tornadoes literally lift material from the surface of the earth, they can lift huge quantities of water also, along with the fish that are in the water.

I am sure you have witnessed little whirlwinds lifting scraps of paper off the ground take it right up in a helix. Likewise, these fish (and other creatures) get sucked up by the whirlwind’s vortex and since such whirlwinds are moving, the water gets blown around in the clouds and once the whirlwind has moved on, the water and the fish fall to the surface of the earth. This is how Fish raining occurs.

The color of shit and urine are both due to breakdown products of heme. The complex digestion process ensures that almost no useful energy goes unused. The average bowel movement is three parts water to one part solid matter. Bacteria make up 30 percent of the solid stuff. The same goes for indigestible foods like cellulose and extra fiber. The remaining 40 percent contain various inorganic wastes, fats and used-up body substances like red blood cells, which are released from the liver in an orange-brown compound called bilirubin.

When red blood cells reach the end of their useful life, the hemoglobin in them is broken down, including various inorganic wastes, fats and used-up body substances to form the shit.

Bilirubin, which is taken up by the liver, which conjugates it to glucuronic acid (to make it more water-soluble) and excretes it in bile (bile juice is in Yellow in colour), which goes to the gall bladder and then into the small intestine. Bacterial metabolism in the small intestine converts it into stercobilin, which is brown and responsible for the color of shit. Some of the bacterially metabolized bile pigments are reabsorbed into the blood, oxidized to yellow urobilin, and excreted in the urine.

Sound is produced due to the mechanical vibration of the media. Sound waves propagate as longitudinal (compression/rarefactions) waves in gases, liquids, and solids. To hear a sound, the energy source should be capable of creating compression waves in the media. This waves upon falling on the diaphragm of the ear will vibrate it enabling the brain to perceive it as sound.

In AC 50Hz system, the electrons in the media oscillates at a frequency 50Hz inside the conductor. So it is not the media(molecules) that is undergoing vibration but the electrons. The electrons collide with the molecules and bounce randomly while oscillating. This will be converted as heat/light energy ( as in filament bulbs, heating coils) but not as mechanical vibrations. So we cannot hear the oscillating electrons.

Hearing involves the vibration of a mechanical media in the frequency range that mentioned. Even though alternating current has a frequency (50Hz), it may or may not have anything to do with mechanical oscillation. However, if the circuit is such that the alternating current generates vibration (as in the case of the speaker), then you can hear the mechanical vibration, otherwise, we cannot.

In the case of sound, frequency means no. of vibrations of an oscillating particle per second. You can find the equation of progressive waves(which sound is in fact) as below:

Now comes about frequency concerning electricity. It is a concept of a.c current in fact which refers how many times electricity is changing its direction per second. you can find the term in the following equation:

Now, in both the cases we find frequency as a valid term but in different definitions and in different forms too. so their role is not the same. again, sound is produced by vibration in the particles of a medium where electricity is produced due to the flow of electron. So, until there is no vibration in a medium we can’t hear sound.

Adding, electricity does not follow wave properties where you know that sound is a form of power that is beared by waves. Also we can say, sound is a form of power that awakens the power of hearing in our brains. But electricity is not capable of that.

Also frequency used in other terms(light, simple harmonis oscilation) can’t make us feel hearing that until it is turned into sound or in other words, until it vibrates the air particles around us.

Now come to the second part of the answer to the question called Discussion:

• Some people say that we can be able to hear electricity. But we cannot because all the electrical copper wires are covered with plastic insulation. So, Apart from providing electrical insulation, it also serves as insulation to sound. As a result of which the vibrations are unable to leave the interiors of the insulation.
  For them I want to ask one question, i.e If we cut a small part of the plastic insulation around the wire and bringing that wire near to ear (considering precautions), then can we hear the current sound? and a big no for that illustration.
• The second doubt that encountered is “We can hear Zzzzz sound near the large transformer, where that sound is coming from ?”
  yeah, that all happening because there is some magnetic induction to the metal casing in the transformer.
